The Alpine High School National Honor Society hosted their 2010 Induction Ceremony on Wednesday, October 11th at the AISD auditorium. While the ceremonies featured a record number of inductees to the Society at Alpine High School, the proceedings went off without a hitch. Forty new members were inducted, including sophomores, juniors, and seniors. In past years new members to the NHS have been inducted at the end of the school year. A change in the membership structure of the Society occasioned this year’s October induction; this is the first time that sophomores have been eligible for inclusion in the service activities of the NHS for the majority of their sophomore school year.
Becoming a member of the National Honor Society is truly an honor granted on the basis of several key characteristics of academic performance, leadership, and community involvement. While an applicant to membership must have maintained a minimum grade point average of 90, membership is not granted solely on that criterion. A council of faculty members also considers the candidate’s qualities of leadership, service, and character, in addition to the scholarly performance of the potential members, in order to make final selection according to the National NHS Constitution and NHS Bylaws. Once granted membership, it is the responsibility and obligation of the student to continue to fulfill a number of ongoing criteria that reflect these basic requirements of the organization. The new Alpine High School members that were honored at the 2010 NHS Induction Ceremony included the following students:

This year the fundraiser was able to raise $1570 for the Alpine High School NHS chapter. Thanks to all who supported this worthy cause especially to Bob Ward and True Value for their generosity.
