AMS Honors Two of Its Own
Karen Gallego AMS Teacher of the Year 2090-2010 Mrs. Gallego has worked for Alpine Middle School since 1993. She began her career as the 6th grade science and social studies teacher. She then moved to the 7th grade where she taught science and the Texas History class. Next came 8th grade science followed by U.S. History. Karen has always volunteered with enthusiasm for every tasked asked of her. She has sponsored the Jr. Historian organization for many years and pitched in and taught a computer literacy class this year. She is a “CLASS ACT”. Congratulations Mrs. Gallego.

Final Report Cards will be Mailed during the first week of June
NJHS Inducts 19
On Wednesday, May 5, Alpine Middle School National Junior Honor Society inducted nineteen new members into the organization for the 2010-2011 school year. NJHS is a service organization and membership is based on the criteria of excellence in Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Citizenship and Character. New inductees include eighth grader Felina Ramos and seventh graders Maria Barcena, Matthew Chavez, Tyler Curtis, Farron Ferguson, Caitlyn Ford, Megan Gilmore, Ryan Hardin, Courteney Malik, Reagan Morris, Darcy Newcomer, Michelle Ramos, Eli Rodriguez, Sadie Shackelford, Taylor Short, Gina Sung, Victor Vega, and Abigail Vizcaino. Officers for the 2010-2011 school year will be President -Megan Gilmore, Vice-President - Maria (Giselle) Barcena, Secretary - Courteney Malik and Treasurer - Victor Vega.
Friday, May 7 - Assembly Schedule Perfect Attendance/A-B Honor Roll Party NO Lunch? - Wed. May 18, 19 Parents because of the alternate scheduling during TAKS Testing Dates, on those dates no lunches will be delivered to students and we are asking parents not to plan to lunch with their child on those dates. Rio Grande Electric Cooperative, Inc. Electrical Safety Poster Contest Winners
Students in the 6th grade competed in this year's contest. They were to illustrate the principles of electrical safety. The winners were:

Rotary Club Annual Essay
Contest Winners
These students won the Rotary 4 Way Test. Genny Spear won 1st place, Elise Cancelare won 2nd, Josef Schosser won 3rd. Genny's paper will be presented at the district meeting in El Paso.
Big Bend History Fair Alpine Middle School winners of the 2010 held at Sul Ross State University are Elise Cancellare, Rebecca Garcia, Helen Morrow and Felina Ramos. Congratulations to these students. Mrs. Kay Schmidt
AMS 6th Grade Science is Region 18’s Gifted and Talented Teacher of the Year Congratulations! Report Cards - go out Friday, Feb. 19 AMS will be donating all clothing left from the lost and found during the fall semester to a local thrift store. Just one way of helping out the community.

AMS students are successful at Stock Show This past weekend, several students from Alpine Middle School participated in the local Big Bend Livestock Show Association stock show. Many of the students showed more than one animal or breed.
