Alpine High School sponsored a blood drive for United Blood Services last Wednesday, March 21. The effort succeeded in obtaining 52 units of blood. Due to the ever-increasing amount of time necessary for standardized testing requirements imposed by the state, blood drives at schools have been declining. These blood drives are important for many reasons. Foremost among those, the high school blood drives offer the youth a chance to give back to their communities; additionally, they provide the blood services a chance to meet a growing demand for blood supplies that are needed in surgeries, transplants, and cancer treatments. Alpine High School hosts two blood drives a year. The AHS Student Council organizes these efforts. After the conclusion of Wednesday’s blood drive, Student Council sponsor Kim Keith commented, “ We would like to continue to contribute. We’d like to extend a Thank-you to faculty, staff and administration for supporting our efforts. It’s with your support and generous cooperation that this important contribution is made possible.” |

In preparation for the upcoming District CX-Debate meet in early February, Alpine High School competed in the Ozona Debate Meet on Jan. 14. The team of Josef Schlosser and Brandon Gilmore, shown above, placed 3rd overall. The team of Maria Barcena and Victor Vega also competed. |
